We’ve been there. We set goals. We made plans and accomplished them. And we are on our way to living our dreams and aspirations. It’s like we’re never gonna stop and we are feeling so motivated. Nothing can stop us. Or so we thought.

And then circumstances happen that crushed our confidence in our selves. We felt that we are not really going to make it. We felt like we have been an impostor all along. We felt low, demotivated, uninspired. And slowly, the momentum we gain came crashing down until nothing’s left.

But we are not an entirely hopeless case. It may take a lot of work but there is still something that we can do about it.

So how do we regain that momentum we once had and build that confidence in our selves again?

Recognize that you are stuck.Recognize that you are stuck.

I’ve been there too. And these past months I have this struggle to overcome the self-doubt that has been nagging inside me. I’ve been plauged by an overwhelming sense of inadequacy. And I’m stuck in a blank screen with nothing to write and with no idea what I should do with my blog. My plans seems monstrous and impossible and I felt like I am never gonna write again. No one will read it anyway. And those feelings hovered over me for months and made me paralyzed. It felt really hopeless.

I always kept delaying writing, thinking I may have an idea tomorrow. But come tomorrow and I stil have no clue. Instead of writing I always ended up doing things that I am not supposed to do just so I can have an excuse why I can’t write a thing. I told myself I can do better the next day but I was only lying to myself. I’m stuck and yet I denied that I am. And I ended up doing nothing about it for days and weeks and months.

Until finally, I started to be honest with myself that I am actually not progressing and that I should do something about it. I realized I have wasted time because I have been so stubborn not to recognize that I am just in an endless cycle of avoiding writing. And I’ve been stuck in there.

Give yourself lots of love.

Give yourself lots of love.

These past months are months of drastic adjustments and struggles for me in my finances,  job, career and almost every aspect in my life that I have noticeably lost weight even when I have been always lean and petite. I thought I have never been thinner my whole life and I am horribly surprised when I found it out. I realized I have been so stressed out that it also affected my creativity and my writing. I have to make necessary steps to regain my health and my weight back.

So even when I had recognized already that I have been away from my blog too long, I had to stop stressing myself to write immediately and started to focus on myself first. I have to take care of myself first before anything else. If I’m not well, how could I take care of my blog? So I stepped back and started to really take care of myself first.

There were days that I have not been sleeping well so that affected me deeply. And I decided to start addressing this problem and made sure I get adequate sleep. I also made sure to eat well and as much as possible consume healthy foods. I purchased moisturizers and beauty products to take care and pamper my skin.

But it was not just all about taking care of my body.

I found out that my state of emotion affects my motivation. No matter how many motivational videos or articles I read, it didn’t change anything when I felt like a mess. I still wasn’t getting anywhere no matter what .

So, I took care of myself emotionally, too. I tried meditating and a little yoga to ease out stress. I started listening to music and singing again, things that I have always loved but have not been enjoying the past months. I reached out to my friends and just enjoyed laid-back conversations and catch-ups. I spent time with my family and loved ones and let them fill my heart with love. But I also enjoyed some time alone to clear my mind. I read books and articles that I find interesting and just enjoyed reading like I used to do.

Giving self lots of love and attention is critical.  I really made sure I pamper myself  physically and emotionally and it all made a difference.

Remember why you started.

Remember why you started.

When you’ve been away too long and come back, you’ll find that there are a lot of things that you have to do and that could be overwhelming. It may feel impossible but you should always remember why you started in the first place. What was it that pushed you to do this thing in the first place? And if you make it through this, how wil it change your life? What greater purpose will it serve? Your goal and your greater purpose will inspire you to finally break away from the shroud of procrastination that has been holding you back and getting you stuck in a rut.

I have always wanted to be a writer when I was a child. But as I grow up, that dream has been pushed away and other priorities has taken over. #Adulting, as they call it, happened to me. And I have to find myself a job that will support me just like everyone else.

I wanted to be financially independent so I could pursue my dream to be a writer. I also want to give back to the community through medical missions. But, I have one big problem: I struggle with my finances. I realized that I really need to take care of my finances if I want to be financially independent.

And that is what lead me to starting this blog. My goal is to be financially independent but the greater purpose of this goal is my dream to live as a writer and do medical missions. That’s quite big if you ask me but that is what my heart is set upon doing.

And remembering that and why I am doing all of these made me eager to get back on track again.

Take baby steps.

Take baby steps.

So, going back to where you have been is not easy after all. And it could easily make you fall back to that rut where you’ve just been. So it’s important to take things slow. Sort it all up and plan your way. It all sounds clichรฉ but there’s sense in really slowing down first and gauging how you should be tackling things first instead of diving immediately head-on.

I’ve been months away and to be really honest I really can’t still figure out how I’m gonna make this work again. But, little by little I incorporated writing into my daily routine after work, before work and on free days. I’m still on the phase of sorting it all up. And my plan may change a bit as I go. But as long as I have a plan, it doesn’t matter if I change it. What matters is that I get to learn what plan works best for me and my situation. Hey, it doesn’t really need to be all planned out to the last minute. I just need to have a direction hence the plan.

I knew now that I shouldn’t stress myself out and that it is better if I would be honest with myself with what I could achieve within a time frame. So as I am starting all over again, I am not pushing myself too much and tire myself out. I’m taking things slow, enjoying the journey in the direction that I had mapped out.

Believe that you can do it.

So yeah, it will take time and more work but this is what I want. And if I really want  it then I should be willing to work on it. And I believe that I will. There is no point in doing this if I don’t believe in myself, right? It will be just pointless and a waste of time.

So just do it and believe that you can. Regain that momentum. Life is yours for the taking after all.
