If you find yourself here, I guess we must be kindred spirits.
Like Anne*, I believe we have a lot of kindred spirits. We just need to find them.
“Kindred spirits are not so scarce as I used to think. It’s splendid to find out there are so many of them in the world.” – Anne of Green Gables, L. M. Montgomery
I am so glad I found you!
Welcome to my tiny space in this big universe of the web, where passion for health, mental well-being, personal development and finances co-exist in harmony and peace.
I believe that financial health is part of your general well-being and your financial health involves investing in your mind, body and personal growth, as well.
And if you ever felt like you want to achieve a sustainable, flexible and healthy lifestyle but found yourself being controlled by money, I totally get you. We are kindred spirits after all.
We want to achieve financial independence not just because of the money but so we could live the life that we want and work on things that we love.
We want to be our fullest self, growing into our best versions everyday.
We want to live healthy — physically, emotionally, mentally AND financially — and enjoy what life has to offer.
But in order to do that, we need to first align our habits with the lifestyle that we want. We need to create smart decisions about our money, our health, and our growth as an individual.
I want to help you with that. I want to motivate and inspire you to set the habits beneficial to your money, health and personal growth in order to create the lifestyle that you want.
At this point, you may ask, “Who are you? And why should I believe what you have to say?”
I totally get you. Even when you felt that we could be kindred spirits, it’s hard to give trust nowadays.
We have been scammed at one or more times in our life that it’s just natural to doubt. More so because we just met!
So let me just tell you a little story about me.
In the beginning, I just wanted to be rich.
I figured if I had a lot of money, I’d be happy and I won’t have any problems. So like most Filipino nurses, I went abroad to earn more.
I did earn more. But I still have problems.
Our family has a huge debt I need to repay. And my grandpa was sick and had to be rushed to the hospital once or twice a month.
I am desperately in need of money. I need to earn more.
And then, 4 days after Christmas, just 5 month before I am scheduled to go home for vacation to see everyone, my grandfather died. He could not wait for me any longer. Five months is too long, and he has suffered much.
My favorite person died, and I didn’t even have a chance to hug him for the last time.
What hurt me most was that during the time that he was sick, I wasn’t able to take care of him even just once. He used to take care of me every time I got sick but I wasn’t able to do the same for him. Ironic, to think that I am a nurse.
It was my biggest heartbreak.
Why It Is Never Just About Money.
I thought I went abroad to earn a lot of money because I wanted to be rich and free of worries. I thought I was chasing money for money alone. But it was really never about money at all. It was all these things that money could buy for me.
I needed money to pay our debts.
I needed money to pay my grandpa’s hospital bills and medications.
I needed money to give me back my time to be with my family. To be with people I love.
To hug people I love. Even for the last time.
It was all these things that matter to me that money can buy. Because the truth is sometimes, you can buy what matters to you with money.
If I had the money, I would not have gone away. Instead I would have been able to take care of my grandpa. I would have spent more time with him.
The need for money drove me to go abroad.
After my grandpa’s death, I decided to just stay in my home country for good.
I changed my career. I landed a well-paying job to sustain me (nursing does not pay you well in our country, that is why most nurses go abroad). And I still have our family’s debt to pay.
Given the history I had with money and the scarcity of it in my life, I focus on earning more money. I crave financial independence.
A Blog Was Born.
And so I started this blog.
At first, I just found it suitable to name it as Nursing My Finance because my finances are a total mess – sickly and malnourished. It seemed fit to say, I am nursing my finances to health being the nurse that I was. My goal was to show the world that even a critical state of financial health can be revived and resuscitated to great financial shape.
My new job certainly gives me an income to help slowly resuscitate my finances to health.
But then, I started having health problems. I am certainly earning but I am also spending more money on medications.
My health is also affecting my focus and productivity. Sometimes, I struggle to have the energy to go to work and do work. It’s affecting my performance.
And as cliche as it sounds, I realize the truth about, “Health is wealth”. Crazy that I am a health professional and I am still so ignorant.
I had neglected my health in the pursuit of financial independence. I had been sedentary. I eat junk. I neglected my mental well-being. I get depressed and anxious over my financial issues.
With this harsh truth, I return to this blog.
Again, It Is Never Just About Money.
I finally found the direction I want my life (and this blog) to go. Financial health involves not just your finances. For you to attain financial health you need to invest in yourself too — your health and mental well-being, habits, and personal development. Good finances are created when we are able to live at our healthiest, fullest self.
I am tired of being short of money.
And I don’t want to feel guilty anymore of spending money on things I love, like books, because, hey that extra money could very well be used to pay off our debt.
I just want my own place and not share with someone else to save money on rent.
I want to take control of my money and not the other way around.
I want to be there for my loved ones and take care of them when they get sick.
I want to be with my parents and grandparents whenever I miss them.
I want to create more moments and share more experiences and adventures with people that I love most.

But in order to achieve all that, I also need to take care of myself.
In order for my finances to be healthy, I need to be healthy too. And in order for my money to grow, I need to grow into the best version of myself.
I’ll get there someday. One baby step at a time.
And I know you will, too.
So shall we take on this journey together?
