Different people want different things in life. And they differ too, in ways on how to achieve them.
However, when you are not clear on what you want in life, there is a tendency to just get in the loop of everyday life with a feeling that you aren’t really going anywhere. Did you ever felt that way?
I used to be unmotivated and I felt like I was like mindlessly wandering through life. At idle moments at work, I would senselessly scroll through my Facebook newsfeed. And at the end of each day, I felt like I’m not really living my life.
Until one day I just get tired of it.
I finally realized that I want something more. I’m tired of the long shifts at work. I want to be living close to home, and not worry something will happen to my family and I’m not there. I want to be free of conflicting schedules and to have a say in what I want to do, where I want.
I got stirred but I was lost where to start.
And then I realized, my finances should be able to support what I want, because let’s face it, I still need money for basically everything. Great, but how?
Fortunately, we now lived in a world where Google can get you answers. Yay! Thanks, Google! I researched, I read books and absorbed everything that I think will help me. I followed blogs and watched videos.
But somehow, I feel like I still am not doing anything. *sigh
Then I came across a book, The One Thing by Jay Papasan and Gary Keller. It literally became a game-changer for me. I read it twice and I really could not help but say that it made so much sense. Its concept is just so simple and powerful.
But that doesn’t mean it’s easy to implement. Being used to the concept of multitasking for years, I really found it hard to go with the notion of focusing on ONE single thing at a time. Heavens help me but my focus really needs much work. And I am patiently working at it now, rewiring my brain to adapt and getting my attention who’s like a wild child, tamed.
So what did I learned in this?
It’s that having a goal matters.
Whatever aspect of life that might be, having a goal helps in getting started and in really living a life you want. Being clear in your goals in life gives you direction to go. It’s the arrow you follow when you’re at the crossroads.
What about you? Have you ever felt that you aren’t living the life you want? What did you do to finally live the life you want?
